The Uncommonality of Common Sense

Common Sense - So rare it's a god damn super power.

Let me start off by saying that my skills as a gamer and a tactician is questionable at best.  However, even I am shocked by the state of the gamers out there today.  Why, is common sense so uncommon among online gamers nowadays?  Now, the lack of common sense is not a new phenomena.  In fact, those who have the (dis)pleasure of knowing me would have heard me complaining about this at one stage or another.  However, my recent experiences with a certain MMO’s Halloween event pushed me over the edge, and prompted the creation of this post.

The event in question involves a PvP match, with five random players matched against five others. Now, common sense would dictate that the five players fight as a team, working together and using their strength as a group to take down their common foes, right?  Common sense would also dictate that 5 of us against 2 to 5 of them would be better odds than 1 of us against 5 of them, right?  So why is it that group after group, player after player insists on separating, running into full groups of enemies solo?  Why is it that most groups refuses to focus on the same targets, instead insisting on everyone targeting a different enemy, while the enemy group focuses and pick us off one by one?  If you are out numbered and surrounded, with the rest of your group out of reach, then pull back in regroup!  Strength in numbers!

Come on peoples, it is basic common sense – this ain’t rocket science for crying out loud!

About BC_Animus

I spend all of my non-work time pretty much on games, movies, and listening to music and podcasts. Gadget lover and gamer - own several major consoles, but mainly play MMOs on the PC nowadays. I am quiet & shy but hell of a nice guy. Consider my childhood days to be the golden age of gaming, with companies like Origin with their Ultimas and Privateers. For me MMOs are all about the people, and not about gear or loot. View all posts by BC_Animus
